Credit Card Accounts Missing From Bank Feeds Link Accounts List in QuickBooks Desktop
When credit card accounts vanish from the bank feeds link list, re-running setup and clearing stale branding files usually restores them.
When you connect a bank or credit card account in QuickBooks Desktop, the Link Accounts screen should show every account in your chart of accounts that matches the financial institution. Sometimes it shows only your checking accounts, or nothing at all. Credit card accounts are the usual casualties. Our engineers see this often, and in most cases the fix is a careful re-run of the bank setup combined with clearing the cached branding files QuickBooks uses to render the connection flow.
Why the list comes up short
QuickBooks builds the Link Accounts screen from two sources: the online banking setup data it stores inside the company file, and cached branding files held on the workstation. Branding files are downloaded from the financial institution and describe the bank's connection profile, its supported account types, and the screens you see during setup.
When those cached files go stale, usually after an update, a version change, or a failed setup attempt, QuickBooks can present an incomplete account list. The card account exists in your chart of accounts, but the setup flow never offers it for linking. The account is not damaged. The cache is.
Before you start
Close QuickBooks and make a full backup of your company file first. This procedure does not edit transactions, but a backup is cheap insurance before any bank feeds work.
Reopen the file in single-user mode. Bank feeds setup behaves unpredictably in multi-user mode, and some setup screens refuse to appear at all. Have your bank sign-in credentials ready, and set aside fifteen minutes so you are not forced to abandon setup halfway through.
Step 1: Capture the current behavior
Before changing anything, document what you see. Open the Banking menu and choose the setup entry for your product edition. Type your bank's name exactly as it appears on your statement, not a nickname, and note the results the search returns.
Screenshot each screen in sequence: the bank name search, the selected bank confirmation, the connection method choice if one appears, and the sign-in screen with your credentials left blank. Most importantly, capture the Link Accounts screen showing which accounts are offered. These captures let you compare against the same screens after the fix, and they are what a support engineer will ask for if the problem runs deeper.
Step 2: Clear the stale branding files
Close QuickBooks completely. Open the folder where QuickBooks stores its downloaded bank branding files. The folder sits inside your user's AppData area, under the QuickBooks application data directory, in a subfolder named for branding or financial institution profiles. The exact path varies by version and edition, so if you are unsure, search the AppData QuickBooks folders for the branding subfolder rather than guessing.
Rename that folder rather than deleting it. Adding "old" to the folder name is enough. Renaming preserves the contents in case you need to restore them, and QuickBooks simply builds a fresh folder on next launch.
Step 3: Re-run the bank setup
Reopen QuickBooks and your company file. Return to the Banking menu and start the online banking setup again from the beginning. Type the bank name carefully, select the correct entry from the results, and choose the connection method when prompted. Sign in with your credentials.
Because the branding cache is now empty, QuickBooks downloads fresh branding files for your bank during this pass. The Link Accounts screen that follows should now list your credit card accounts alongside any checking accounts, each available for linking to its corresponding chart of accounts entry.
Signs it worked
The clearest sign is the credit card account appearing on the Link Accounts screen with a Link option. After linking, download a set of transactions. If the card account accepts the download and places transactions in the review list, the connection is fully restored. Compare your captured screenshots against the new screens; the account list should be visibly longer.
When the workaround is not enough
If the card account still does not appear after a clean re-run, the problem is likely inside the company file rather than the cache. A damaged online banking profile attached to the account, or a chart of accounts entry with a corrupted account type flag, will keep the account off the list no matter how many times you clear branding files. In that situation the file itself needs attention, and our QuickBooks data recovery service for damaged company files is the right next step.
