QuickBooks Desktop 2022: Keep-Alive Playbook

QuickBooks Desktop 2022 (including Enterprise 22.0) reached service discontinuation on May 31, 2025, and security patches stopped the day after. The software itself keeps running -- here's your plan for the 2022 version specifically.

What ended (May 31, 2025)

  • Payroll and tax-table updates
  • Bank feeds (Direct Connect / Online Banking)
  • QuickBooks Payments, online backup, live support
  • Security patches (from June 1, 2025)

What still works

Opening and editing your company file, transactions, reports, printing, and local multi-user -- indefinitely.

Your 2022 checklist

  1. Freeze it. Block updates so the 2022 build stays put, and record your license/product numbers.
  2. Replace bank feeds. Switch to .QBO / CSV / IIF imports.
  3. Handle payroll. Move to manual payroll or an external service.
  4. Mind the OS. If it's on Windows 10, read after Windows 10 end of life.
  5. Protect the file. Run the file-health routine.

Do these once and QuickBooks Desktop 2022 keeps doing your books with no subscription and no upgrade. For the big picture, see the master survival guide.
